So you’ve got a free weekend- when does that ever happen??!! But it has, so you want to make the most of it. I love to explore London on those rare occasions. Obviously its an amazing city, with such diversity, so where do you start??
I always like to have a rough idea of something I want to see over that weekend. I’m not talking about a tourist style regime, just a few ideas. This prevents the aimless wandering down unknown streets that don’t lead to much and also wastes precious time that could be spent in a cool bar or street food market.
The first and probably most important part is to book a great hotel. It doesn’t have to break the bank, there are plenty of affordable options. When looking for a hotel I love to try and stay somewhere new. I often screenshot any cool places I spot on Instagram/Twitter/Pinterest and save them in a weekends away folder- geeky but useful. Searching for hotels over social media is also great for finding some new places, that you hadn’t previously heard of, or would consider looking at before.
I found the hotel The Artist Residence when searching “cool London hotels” in Pinterest. Im a sucker for a great interior- hence the birth of Haus of Hyde, so it stood out to me straight away. The interior looked quirky and eclectic and I loved that it was a small boutique style hotel ( From experience they offer great service). I booked through I-Escape which is a great online service sourcing the best in boutiques, so i knew it wouldn’t disappoint!
We decided to treat ourselves and go for the best room in house. The suite was beautiful, parquet flooring, white washed walls, vintage French style furniture and a HUGE free standing tub!
The room was certainly worth the extra pennies. The design was carefully thought out from the freestanding marble sink unit to the wrought iron four poster bed. It was a perfect couples get away. After a busy day in London it was the perfect hotel to go back to and flake out.
The atmosphere was chilled. Dinner in the restaurant downstairs is one we still remember, and the cocktails after were just as good!
It’s definitely worth a visit- and if you’re planning on a weekend in Brighton then they have an Artist Residence there too, which we’re looking forward to checking out.
